Elvas, Portugal, very near the Spanish border - the area holds lots of ancient Roman Aqueducts ! |
We were invited to fish at Lago da Alfarofia, the first and only commercial carp fishery in Portugal. |
Invitation by the owner, Joāo Carlos, on the far right. From the left: Peter Staggs, Stephen Buss, Graham Noon & my-bald-self. |

Joćo Carlos is a rice farmer, and Alfarofia lake is a part of the rice field's watering system. |
Many hectares of rice fields. Some of these may well be turned into carp lakes in the future. |
We set up at the lake for the carp. |

To try and eliminate too much damage to our baits by the crayfish, we used tigernuts & plastic boilies. |
We also boiled a lot of hemp, to give a good smell around the baits, and keep the crayfish occupied. |
