Fishing Amazonas
From Manaus to Nova Olinda by air taxi. Wonderful Amazon River. Nova Olinda do Norte.
Our houseboat and home while going to Rio Camaiú. Evening time, fishing gear to get ready. And lovely dinner.
Next morning arrival at Rio Camaiú. First day fishing, and Rubinho catches a beautiful Matrinchaõ (Brycon).
My first Tucunaré (Peacock Bass), and we even prepare it to have as Sashimi - yummie !
Basecamp, 3 hours from the houseboat. Tent camp a la max ! Food prepared for us every day.

The kitchen, where Donna Marcia & Donna Maria cook for us. Very civilized bath & toilet.
Next morning, ready to go fishing. Many beautiful spots to fish, and just below here, I catch my first Capararí ( Shovelnose Catfish).
9 kg - I am so proud ! Rubinho catches one right after at 12 kg. Fernando & Luiz fishing for catfish.
We stay at a sub-camp for the night - 3 hours from the barecamp. No problem getting settled.
At lunch time I go snorkeling. Many lovely aquarium fish to see + bigger speciemens. Next day we venture beyond,
where the guides have ever gone before.
And we find curious beings, such as this fearsome Electric Eel - 7 kg.
Back at basecamp the next day, and we set out to catch big Tucunaré (Peacock Bass) on livebait - here a Peau (Leporinus Characin).
First bite and I have my biggest Tucunaré ever - 6 kg. Rubinho wants to flyfish the Tucunaré, and it doesn't take him long to get this one - 6 kg.
Right after, he catches a 7 kg on livebait. Side catch: Cachorro (Freshwater Barracuda). At lunchtime, we just find a suitable spot,

and chill out, and eat our food, and, maybe, a little more chilling out.

Evening time is dedicated to fishing for catfish. Piranhas never leave the bait alone -
Here Rubinho with a 3 kg Black Piranha.
However, I manage to get a 13 kg Pirarára
(Southamerican Redtail Catfish).

The wildlife was spectacular - here Red Ara. Fishing Eagle. Vulture.

Black Caiman. False Coral Snake. Butterfly.

Giant Otter. And, Boto, the pink freshwater Dolphin. Back towards Nova Olinda - the others continue,

but I stay 1 day at Fazenda Macambira, where we fish for the worlds largest freshwater fish: Pirarucú (Arapaima).

Paolo quickly catches a 50 kg specimen. I get a small 25 kg - but still very happy. Lunch break at Macambira Camp.

Afternoon fishing, and 84 year old Fernando, catches a 65 kg fish. All good things come to an end !!!
Thanks for watching !!!
